Apple, Bacon & Maple Bites

Bouchées pommes, bacon et érable

Sweet, savoury and crispy — the perfect appetizer trio.

Ingredients

  • 2 firm apples (Cortland, Honeycrisp or Gala), diced
  • 12 slices of bacon, cut into thirds
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • Toothpicks

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together maple syrup, soy sauce, vinegar and Dijon mustard.
  3. Wrap each apple cube with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
  4. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Brush generously with the maple glaze.
  6. Bake 15–20 minutes, turning halfway through and brushing again with glaze.
  7. Serve hot, straight from the oven.

Tips

For a festive twist, sprinkle a pinch of Espelette pepper before baking.

You can prepare the glaze in advance and assemble just before guests arrive.
