Maple Mulled Wine (and alcohol-free version)

Vin chaud à l’érable (et sa version sans alcool)

Comforting and festive at the same time.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle red wine (I use Québec wine L'Orpailleur)
  • or for a mocktail: cranberry juice + orange juice blend, or unfiltered apple juice
  • 1 orange and 1 lemon, sliced into strips
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • Extra cinnamon sticks for garnish

Preparation

  1. In a large saucepan over high heat, pour in the wine (or juice blend).
  2. Add citrus, spices, and maple syrup.
  3. Bring to a boil.
  4. As soon as it reaches a first boil, turn off the heat and let infuse for 1 hour.
  5. Strain the mixture, return to the saucepan, and heat again until hot.
  6. Serve warm in mugs or toddy glasses, garnished with a cinnamon stick.

Tips

For a festive touch, rim the glasses with maple sugar before serving.
