Comforting and festive at the same time.
Ingredients
- 1 bottle red wine (I use Québec wine L'Orpailleur)
- or for a mocktail: cranberry juice + orange juice blend, or unfiltered apple juice
- 1 orange and 1 lemon, sliced into strips
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 star anise
- 3 cloves
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- Extra cinnamon sticks for garnish
Preparation
- In a large saucepan over high heat, pour in the wine (or juice blend).
- Add citrus, spices, and maple syrup.
- Bring to a boil.
- As soon as it reaches a first boil, turn off the heat and let infuse for 1 hour.
- Strain the mixture, return to the saucepan, and heat again until hot.
- Serve warm in mugs or toddy glasses, garnished with a cinnamon stick.
Tips
For a festive touch, rim the glasses with maple sugar before serving.
