The Bistreau d'érable

The sugar shack in the heart of the Parc des Appalaches

Our sugar shack has existed since 1996 and its first decade was to the sound of boilers and rusticity. There followed a shift towards modernity to ensure its development. It is located in Sainte-Lucie-de-Beauregard in row 6 West, that of the covered bridge and Mount Sugar Loaf, in the heart of the magnificent Parc Régional des Appalaches!

The sugar refinery currently operates 24,000 pipe taps, with a southern slope on the Sugar Loaf. Our product is a mountain syrup whose taste is particularly delicious.

We are a Chaudière Appalaches Gourmet Stop. It is therefore possible to stop by our boutique and visit the sugar shack year-round, by appointment.

Our story

From the bottom of the woods...

The story of Bistreau d’érable begins with the Duquet family, Roland and Gilberthe. It is at home that France, Claude and Martin Sauvageau take their first classes. In 1996, the trio built a traditional sugar shack at Claude's, 1.6 km from Rang 6 and equipped themselves with the former wood champion of Mr. Duquet. About 1000 boiler maples are exploited annually with Martin as chief sugar bowler (who also finds the name of the cabin), with help from France.

... at the edge of the row

In 2006, Jérôme and Noémie in turn took over the reins of the sugar refinery, still with help from France. Lot 31 was purchased by Jérôme and Noémie from Claude Sauvageau in 2008. The same year, a quota for 5,500 taps was obtained and the construction of the new cabin near the row began in 2009. All the materials were sawn by Jérôme with his mill saw and the construction is carried out by the team. The reverse osmosis process and an oil evaporator are installed there. The old wood-fired evaporator moves to Claude Couture's sugar refinery. Step by step, the hut will be built between 2009 and 2016 and then there will be an extension built in 2017-2018.
